Courageous: A Novel (Audiobook CD)

Four men, one calling: to serve and protect. As law enforcement officers, Adam Mitchell, Nathan Hayes, and their partners willingly stand up to the worst the world can offer. Yet at the end of the day, they face a challenge that none of them are truly prepared to tackle: fatherhood.

While they consistently give their best on the job, good enough seems to be all they can muster as dads. But they’re quickly discovering that their standard is missing the mark. They know that God desires to turn the hearts of fathers to their children, but their children are beginning to drift farther and farther away from them. Will they be able to find a way to serve and protect those who are most dear to them? When tragedy hits home, these men are left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, their faith, and their fathering. Can a newfound urgency help these dads draw closer to God . . . and to their children?

Bestselling author Randy Alcorn brings the heart-pounding drama of the screenplay by Alex and Stephen Kendrick to this inspiring novel that also includes subplots, characters, and backstory not seen in the movie.

Listener Reviews

"This is one the best books I've read in a long time. Although the main characters were men I learned things that are valuable to women also. This was definitely worth the read. I stumbled acrossed it while searching for narrations by Roger Mueller. After reading it, I suggested it to several friends and family members. Little did I know, shortly thereafter it would go to the big screen. Let me add, I LOVE listening to Roger Mueller. His energy engulfs you and leaves you wanting for more. He has not disappointed me yet. It was he who got me listening to audiobooks. Great job! Great story!"

"The novel follows the lives of four police officers and their families and an immigrant construction worker and his family. Although the officers face daily challenges of murder, rape, drugs, and gang activity, they’re unprepared for the challenge of fatherhood—until tragedy strikes and each man makes a resolution. Roger Mueller’s powerful characterization of the immigrant family’s spiritual strength and dedication to one other contrasts sharply with the officers’ commitments to their jobs; that is, until one starts reading the Bible. Mueller’s depiction of Adam’s teen son’s budding trust in his father’s new commitment to parenting brings tears. With vigor and emotional intensity, Mueller delivers a compassionate, complicated story against a backdrop of families in crisis."
